| St. Bernard's Church Parish House Address 88 Claremont Road Bernardsville, N.J. 07924 Location West side of Claremont Road between Mine Mount Road and Somerset Avenue. (Driveway is on Mine Mount Road between Claremont Road and Stevens Street.) Built 1912-1913 Style English Gothic Use Episcopal church parish house. — Completely clad in heavy gray ashlar, and containing stepped stairway windows, this building evokes its neighbor two blocks to the east, the F.P. Olcott Building. On the north facade, note the outlines of two second-floor windows, with arches above. If these were filled in after completion, the fillers-in must have used stone from the same quarry.
St. Bernard's Church, designed by Napoleon LeBrun and built in 1897, was badly damaged by a fire on Oct. 23, 2004. Hardenbergh's parish house, however, was not affected by the fire.
Many thanks to the author W. Barry Thomson for alerting me to the existence of this building.
